Strategic Planning

I recently was promoted to a Strategy Director role with the City of Sheridan, which was a welcome surprise. Assuming the role of a Strategy Director is the realization of a professional desire to continuously improve, but the journey doesn’t end at the destination. The transition into the role of Strategy Director was a culmination of years of hard work and a relentless pursuit of excellence. I’m excited to play a part in shaping the future of the community while working with a great deal of talented individuals.

Crafting a strategic vision involves not only understanding the business landscape but also communicating a narrative that inspires and motivates the team. I will be spending a considerable amount of time collaborating with key stakeholders, understanding their perspectives, and weaving together a vision that will guide our strategic endeavors. Realizing that this is an effort that the whole City will undertake, this undertaking will necessitate a culture of collaboration and innovation and the empowerment of everyone to contribute their unique skills and perspectives to this process.

My first year as a Strategy Director will require a great deal of continuous learning and adaptation. Staying abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and emerging dynamics is a constant priority. Embracing a growth mindset and encouraging the team to do the same will foster a culture of innovation and agility. While there will always be individuals resistant to change, I believe that the majority of people want to improve and work towards a common goal. Celebrating successes, no matter how small, will play a crucial role in reinforcing the team’s commitment to the strategic vision. Improvements will also demonstrate that the City is creating positive change within the organization.

I’m looking forward to working with everyone in this new role and having a greater impact on City operations. As I work on my own learning and development, I will be thinking of the continuous goal – the improvement of the community and the culture within the organization.
